Instead Of Saying ‘Hey, Guys!’ At Work, Try These Gender-Neutral Alternatives

“Hey, guys!” It’s the greeting that launched a thousand meetings and Zoom calls.  But when used to address your colleagues, it’s a gendered greeting that could be sending signals about who is ― and isn’t ― included in your workplace. Here are some alternatives.

How Leading with Heart Uplifts Teams and Organizations

Everyone who is reading this will have encountered managers who genuinely cared for them and those who did not. Those who do not genuinely care leave employees feeling like they are just a number. You may have found yourself thinking or overheard others say, “I don’t understand why they do not care about all my efforts” or “They don’t care about the hours I work; they just want me to get the work done.”

By contrast, those managers who made you feel that you had an important role to play in a team’s success and the organization would have gotten the best out of you. After what seemed like a lifetime of repeatedly hearing and reading about these same scenarios and experiences, Heather Younger set out to clearly define what caring leadership looked like and how leading with heart uplifts teams and organizations in her new book.

eBook: 6 Crucial Conversations to Succeed in 2021

VitalSmarts’ latest research of 1,200 employees, shows that when it came to succeeding in 2020, how well you hold crucial conversations is more important than the resources at your disposal, grit of your team, good ideas, and even talent. And while dialogue is critical in a crisis and its aftermath, some conversations matter more than others. Leaders identified six conversations that are critical to 2021 success.

But while speaking up is necessary for survival and success, it isn’t always easy. We often give in to stress, pressure, and fear. When our voice is needed most, we bite our tongue and tell ourselves that speaking up will only complicate the issue, rock the boat, and derail the plan.

Download their eBook, Speak Up to Move Forward: Six Crucial Conversations for Success in 2021 to learn the six conversations and four skills for holding them successfully.

Struggling to Achieve Your Goals? Embrace the Goal Reflection Loop

Setting goals is everything. But if that’s the case, why do so few organizations — and people — manage to actually achieve their goals? Great Leaders Frequently Use These 2 Words

You’ve heard the old saying, “People don’t leave bad jobs. They leave bad bosses.” It’s true, and more often than not, it’s because they don’t pay enough, but it has nothing to do with salary. Many bad bosses are bad because they don’t pay enough attention to currencies more compelling than money. Dr. Melissa Hughes reminds us to thank those in our care and why.

How Gratitude Changes You and Your Brain

With the rise of managed health care, which emphasizes cost-efficiency and brevity, mental health professionals have had to confront this burning question: How can they help clients derive the greatest possible benefit from treatment in the shortest amount of time?

Recent evidence suggests that a promising approach is to complement psychological counseling with additional activities that are not too taxing for clients but yield high results. In our own research, we have zeroed in on one such activity: the practice of gratitude. Indeed, many studies over the past decade have found that people who consciously count their blessings tend to be happier and less depressed.
